About The Centre
Towards a strong, vibrant, engaged community

The Carterton Events Centre will provide a focal point for the community to meet, connect, learn, create, and be entertained & inspired. It will:

make Carterton an even greater place to live
enable a wider range of community, social & cultural services to be offered
provide better access to community, social and cultural services
meet the needs of a wide range of users through flexible, modern spaces
provide economies for community groups through use of shared meeting spaces, saving individual building costs
benefit the local and Wairarapa economy by attracting regional & national events & users
have the ability to act as a welfare centre event of a civil defence emergency

Why do we need a new Centre?

Carterton has a shortage of community facilities – e.g. it has no Town Hall
There is a lack of appropriate facilities for some activities
Previous facilities were outdated and would not have served current or future generations
Refurbishment of previous facilities was found not to be feasible
There is a need to upgrade the important heritage library building

Who will use the Centre?

There are many possibilities for use of the Centre, limited only by our imagination. Users include:
community groups – for meetings, exhibitions, events
local, regional and national performing arts groups,
Exhibition holders – art, horticulture, agriculture,
youth groups – for activities, training, events
Council – for meetings and as a welfare centre in the event of a civil defence emergency
businesses – for meetings, conferences, training, sales promotions
young children, older people and everyone in between!
